EOPo Block Copolymers

What is EO/PO Block Copolymers?

EO/PO block copolymers (EOPo) are nonionic surfactants made by reacting ethylene oxide and propylene oxide with an alcohol or other starter; they offer wetting, dispersing, and low-foam performance.

What is EO/PO Block Copolymers used for?

EOPo block copolymers are used in detergents and cleaners; in personal care emulsions; in industrial wetting and dispersing; and in low-foam nonionic surfactant formulations. Venus Ethoxyethers manufactures and supplies in India; request a quote for your requirements.

EO/PO block copolymers are nonionic surfactants produced by sequential or random addition of ethylene oxide (EO) and propylene oxide (PO) to an alcohol or amine initiator. The resulting polyether blocks create tunable hydrophilic–lipophilic balance, cloud points, and foam profiles unmatched by simple alcohol ethoxylates—making them essential in low-foam detergents, defoamers, wetting agents, and dispersants.

Block structure and solubility

In typical EO–PO block architectures, hydrophobic PO segments anchor at interfaces while hydrophilic EO segments confer water solubility. Products with limited water solubility and cloud points below 50 °C are favoured where rapid wetting and foam suppression are required. Reversing block order or adjusting EO:PO ratio shifts performance from dispersant to emulsifier behaviour.

Key applications

EO/PO block copolymers serve metal cleaning, paper processing, textile scouring, hydraulic fluids, cement grinding aids, and institutional low-foam cleaners. They wet hard surfaces rapidly, disperse pigments, and collapse foam generated by other surfactants. In combination with fatty alcohol ethoxylates, they balance detergency and foam control in automatic dishwash and machine warewash formulas.

Custom manufacturing

Venus manufactures a wide range of EO/PO block copolymers to customer specifications—including molecular weight, block ratio, and cloud point targets. Below is a tentative list of standard products; bespoke grades are available on request.

Cloud point and temperature stability

Cloud point indicates the temperature at which an EO/PO copolymer becomes insoluble and is a key selector for high-temperature cleaning and low-foam wetting. Venus manufactures grades across a wide cloud-point range and can match historical reference products for reformulation projects.

EO/PO block copolymers are polyoxyethylene–polyoxypropylene block copolymers (e.g., EO-PO-EO) used as non-ionic surfactants, emulsifiers and stabilizers with tunable hydrophilic–lipophilic balance. CAS 9003-11-6.

Venus Ethoxyethers manufactures EO/PO block copolymers (low foam surfactants, defoamers) in India. We supply for industrial cleaners, paper, textile, and personal care. Request a quote.

They are used in detergents, industrial cleaners, personal care, pigment dispersion, textile processing, and as formulation aids for wetting, solubilization and low-foaming applications.

Select a grade based on molecular weight, EO/PO ratio (hydrophilicity), cloud point, and end‑group chemistry. Provide application details to our technical team and we will recommend suitable grades and provide samples, SDS, and TDS.

Biodegradability and safety depend on the specific chemistry and end groups. Many EO/PO polymers are readily biodegradable, but please consult the SDS for the specific grade for regulatory and safety guidance.
